            About Arkansas Cedar Works

            Experience & Creativity

Ever since I was a small boy growing up in the mountains of Northwest Arkansas, my father taught me how to work with wood.  My woodworking interests continued to develop until I was taking fine wood craftsmanship classes to hone my skills.  Now after over 60 years, I continue to perfect my craft with old world mortise and tenon design and craftsmanship.  This wood mailbox post and copper mailbox is my signature item.
            1. Confident & Premium Positioning

My work isn’t designed for mass production, big-box sales or short-term use.

It’s built for those who value craftsmanship, permanence, and legacy—pieces that are meant to be enjoyed for decades, not replaced in a few seasons.

            ⸻

            2. Clear Market Contrast

In a world of fast, disposable products, I build something different—

handcrafted pieces designed for longevity, character, and generational use.

My clients aren’t looking for the cheapest option—they’re investing in something that lasts.

            ⸻

            3. High-Net-Worth Appeal

My clients are individuals who appreciate exceptional quality and understand the value of investing in timeless craftsmanship.

Every piece is designed to stand the test of time—both structurally and aesthetically.

            ⸻

            4. Built for a lifetime

            Built for a lifetime—not a season or two…

            ⸻

            5. Zero big box mindset

            I don’t build for the big-box mindset.

I build for the homeowner who wants something rare—something that reflects care, intention, and true craftsmanship.

These are pieces meant to outlast trends, weather time, and become part of a home’s story for generations.

            Traditional Mortise & Tenon Joinery

Each wood mailbox post with copper mailbox is painstakingly  fashioned with it's own unique and beautiful cedar woodgrain and patina coloration.  We use high quality hand tools to create an extremely tight fitting mortise & tenon support system, and then permanently secure all the components together with hardwood white oak pegs.  All hardwood dowel joints are also glued using Titebond Ultimate exterior wood glue, and the mortise & tenon joints using Liquid Nails are permanently sealed together using construction grade exterior cement.  No nails, screws or bolts are used.  We then sand and finish the post with three coats of the finest Premium Australian Natural Timber Oil by Cabot (containing teak, tung and linseed oils) to fully seal the wood from the elements, and provide a semi-gloss finish that is impervious to moisture.  This type of finish still allows the wood pores to breathe and flex with the changes in temperature and humidity, while still protecting the wood from insects, moisture and the elements.  Each main post is nine feet tall by eight-inches thick, allowing a three-foot portion of the post to be encased completely in concrete, with the top six-feet supporting the mailbox.  We include a set of tile-drain concrete instructions for your installation that ensures that your post will not be exposed to moisture, sitting in water or touching soil.  The mailbox height is designed to be set at 44 inches from the ground to the bottom of the mailbox.  The copper used in the mailbox wrap is minimum 16 mil. thick, and solid copper cap is a minimum of 22 mil. thick.  The mailbox wrap and copper cap come standard in natural copper with a shiny finish.  We will also provide a recipe for you to make your own blue patina formula for the copper, with instructions on how to apply.  The patina formula recipe we use usually takes approximately 4-6 hours to take effect when applied properly.  Or you can leave the natural copper to naturally patina on it's own over the years.  (Please note that the street number sign and blue copper patina shown in the photo is not included).

            Guarantee and Terms of Service

I lovingly create this wood mailbox post and copper mailbox so you can enjoy for many years to come.  If you ever encounter a design flaw or craftsmanship issue, I will fix or replace the piece–you only pay shipping. I'm also always available to help you you with advice to maintain the look of your mailbox.  We recommend re-applying a coat of Natural Australian Timber Oil by Cabot every three to five years to maintain an ultimate finish and protect the wood.
